Howard County Iowa Conservation Board - IDNR Areas

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) manages three areas in Howard County

The Iowa DNR offers many opportunities to explore the state’s diverse natural resources, better understand the environmental issues it faces, and learn skills to help enjoy outdoor activities.

 

The IDNR Mission statement: To conserve and enhance our natural resources in cooperation with individuals and organizations to improve the quality of life

in Iowa and ensure a legacy for future generations.

IDNR STATE - MANAGED AREAS

Elma Wildlife Area
Acreage/Description: 155 acres Timber, Floodplain Location/Directions: 4.3 miles West of Elma on B17Game: Pheasant, Deer, Squirrel, and Waterfowl

Hayden Prairie
Acreage/Description: 240 acres Native Prairie
Location/Directions: 4.9 miles West of Lime Springs on A23 Game: Pheasant, Rabbit, and Deer

Turkey River Access
Acreage/Description: 410 acres 1/2 Timber, 1/2 Upland Location/Directions: 1 miles South of Cresco on V-58, 0.6 miles East on Kings Road Game:Deer, Squirrel, Rabbit and Turkey
